Mariam in Blue
Acrylic on Archival Gallery-Wrap Stretched Canvas, 18″ x 24″

Beloved Mariam. Jewish mother of Jesus (and her several other children including Jesus’ four brothers + probably two sisters)… a once-living human woman.

She’s known as being free of “original sin…” and she remains a perpetual virgin in one story. (Something I’ve contemplated for years – possibly believing in the Easter bunny before I would that as literal interpretation)

It seems she’s lifted for being an untouched almost celestial being… instead, what if her earthy motherhood for birthing a great sage was as equal as her heavenly love that can be felt universally as the essence of our Mother God?

Because, it is written, “In the beginning, the Lord created the heavens and the earth” (both created equally) “and God saw all that he had made and it was good.”

Maybe we can understand we are here to discover the divine while on earth, and the spiritual within the physical. Maybe we learn to celebrate and revel in our humanity while lifting ourselves up to God.

And maybe we embrace our ability to procreate miraculously… that which is immaculate in its own nature, and a microcosmic aspect of what our Creator has done for us.

May we individually not be ashamed of being an embodied and erotic human, and learn to harness our life-force in the most holy and incredible ways.
